Local Colleges: Copeland leads Coast Guard to victory

New London - Robert Copeland scored three goals in the first half as the Coast Guard Academy men's soccer team beat Maritime College of New York 6-0 in a nonleague game Sunday.

Matt Epperly, Patrick Hanrahan and Tradd Lovern also scored goals for Coast Guard (7-7-3) and Joe Bodzewski had two assists.

• The Connecticut College coed team finished ninth in the 18-team Sherman Hoyt Trophy Regatta in Cranston, R.I. Skipper Kevin Martland, Bryce Kopp, Lea Bushnell, Ben Meyers and Jordan Bothwick were sixth in the A division with 94 points and IG Schottlaender, Gabe Salk, Grace Medley, Bothwick and Meyers were 13th in the B division with 125 points.

The Conn women's team was 15th out of 18 teams in the Stu Nelson Trophy Regatta on the Thames River. Liz Dubovik and Marina Sachs were sixth in the A division with 86 points and Rebecca Quirke, Eliza Garry, Eliza Price and Serena Cipullo were 16th in the B division with 129.
