Local roundup: NFA's Velles picks Division I Saint Peter's

Norwich - Norwich Free Academy senior girls' basketball player Alyssa Velles has accepted a scholarship to play basketball at Division I Saint Peter's University.

Velles, the Most Valuable Player of the 2012 Eastern Connecticut Conference Tournament, will play for coach Patty Coyle, the former coach of the New York Liberty.

• Luis Dantas scored a pair of goals as St. Thomas More beat MacDuffie 3-2 Wednesday. Jonathan Bell had a goal and an assist, Kris Carroll had an assist and Kory Fortier had nine saves for St. Thomas More.

• Alex Gaito had an assist for East Lyme in Wednesday's 2-1 overtime win over Stonington in the ECC tournament. Leo Aguirre scored a goal for Stonington. The players were incorrectly identified in Thursday's paper.
