New London — In a show of solidarity with the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy will raise the Marine Corps flag, along with the National Ensign and the Coast Guard Ensign, during morning colors at the academy, Sunday, Nov. 10, for the Marine Corps’ 238th birthday.

After morning colors, members of the Marine Corps League Thames River Detachment will join academy cadets and staff for a presentation on the historic relationship between the two armed forces. The public is invited.

The Coast Guard and Marine Corps served together during many conflicts, including World War II. The Coast Guard delivered hundreds of Marines to strategic locations in the Pacific.
