Veterans of Foreign Wars Simonelli Post 3263 announces November events

Mystic — The Veterans of Foreign Wars Hugo A. Simonelli Post 3263 has planned several events for November.

The public is invited to a breakfast and two Veterans Day ceremonies.

The Ladies Auxiliary will meet at 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11. They will conduct a candlelight vigil to honor veterans before the meeting, at 5 p.m., and light more than 100 candles.

The post will conduct their annual Veterans Day Service at the World War I monument at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 11. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at the post home. 

The monthly breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17.

Latkes: For the first time in 125 years, Thanksgiving falls during Hanukkah so our table will be filled with the best food both holidays have to offer. Happy Thanksgivikkah!

My Thanksgiving has been completely taken over by the ever-earlier Black Friday sales. My big meal will be looking more like a fast food burger in line outside of Best Buy than the traditional sit-down meals from days of ole.
