As per those Bosch triptychs, that ceiling of the Sistene Chapel, or the scoreboard on the Green Monster, many folks have the perception that, in art, "bigger is better." A visit to the Cooley Gallery in Old Lyme, for its 27th annual holiday show "All Paintings Great and Small," should dispel that myth. The show features works by more than 60 New England artists - contemporary and historical - and all of them are 12 inches in size or smaller. (See Pamela Ehrlich's "St. George and the Dragon" shown above.) Rather than a single curator, the pieces are selected and recommended by the Cooley Gallery staff. An opening reception takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Runs through Jan. 11. The Cooley Gallery is at 25 Lyme St.. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tues.-Sat.; (860) 434-8807, cooleygallery.com.
