Local Colleges: Gabelman leads Conn past Mitchell

New London - Tara Gabelman scored 18 points and had 19 rebounds, leading the Connecticut College women's basketball team to an 81-36 win over visiting Mitchell College Sunday.

Willa McKinley had 17 points, five assists and four rebounds, Carlee Smith scored 12 and Caitlin Cimino had nine points and five rebounds for Conn (4-2). Gabelman was 6-for-9 from the floor, 6-for-6 from the line and surpassed 600 rebounds in her career. The senior moves into a tie for ninth in school history with 604 rebounds.

Savannah Boyle scored 13 points and Jessica Shepard had 12 points, five rebounds and three assists for Mitchell (0-4).

Men's hockey

• Connecticut College remained winless, falling to Salem State 1-0 in overtime. Eric Defelice scored 2:33 into overtime to give Salem State (4-3) the victory.

Mike Petchonka made 26 saves for Conn (0-6), which was outshot 27-21.
