Groton Holiday Lights Parade happens Saturday

Published December 05. 2013 4:00AM
The Groton Holiday Lights Parade rolls out the sights and sounds of the holiday.

While the East Lyme Light Parade is celebrating its 25th year in 2013, the Groton Holiday Lights Parade is no slouch either, marking its 15th annual event on Saturday.

What can you expect from the event run by the Groton Business Association? Lots of illumination, naturally, on all manner of cars and floats and marchers and music-makers.

Once the parade makes its way down Route 1, Santa Claus lights the tree on the green behind the Groton Shopping Plaza. And he'll take photos with kids, too.

Steve Elci and Friends will perform after the procession, and refreshments and a small gift for kids will be available, donated by Grader Jewelers.

Groton Holiday Lights Parade, 5 p.m. Saturday, Poquonnock Road at South Road, along Long Hill Road to the Groton Shopping Plaza; grotonbiz.com.

The minimum wage is too low to support a family. Those workers need a raise.
The minimum wage is not meant to support a family and a raise could negatively affect many businesses.
I support a raise and I'll boycott those fast food businesses where workers are walking out.
Those workers are lucky to have a job. If they are unhappy they should look for a better paying job.
