Just wanted to let The Day know that I haven't been able to put down my copy of "Looking Back - A Photo Retrospective of New London County."
This great book leaves me wanting more. If I had one complaint it would be that some of the pictures are rather small, but I understand that they all could not be a larger format or the book would be too big and expensive.
Though not a native, I have lived in Ledyard 36 years. The history and old photos intrigue me. I have managed to collect a sizable library of non-fiction books, and several of the books are of images of times and places gone by. Even those in work clothes doing physical labor look more elegant than the way people dress today. If I never see another man in a baseball hat, especially turned backwards or sideways, it will be too soon!
I hope the Day continues to produce such volumes. Even though I have a computer, I continue to receive the print edition because I believe there is nothing like the printed word. Newspapers have played an important role in the country's history and evolution. I hope they continue to do so.
Some don't read a paper or listen to news. How how can someone be an informed citizen without it?
