Kevin Meaney brings the humor at Mohegan Sun

Published December 26. 2013 4:00AM

Kevin Meaney hits the Mohegan Sun Cabaret Theatre stage on Saturday, but it won't be his first time performing in Connecticut this year. He starred in the Connecticut Repertory Theatre production of "Hairspray" at the University of Connecticut.

He played Edna Turnblad in a cast that featured a lot of UConn grads and undergrads - and he earned nice reviews. He had actually acted in Broadway's "Hairspray" a few years back, too.

Meaney has acted elsewhere - a little gig as a John Hancock reenactor on "30 Rock," for instance - but he's still doing his stand-up, as he will at the Sun. He has, of course, done all the talk shows - "The Late Show with David Letterman," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." His comedy once inspired the Washington Post critic Tom Shales to write this: "Picture the precocious love child of Jonathan Winters and Ethel Merman and you have some idea of Kevin Meaney's act."

Kevin Meaney, 9 p.m. Saturday, The Cabaret Theatre, Mohegan Sun; also, Matt Burke and John Iavarone; $27.50; mohegansun.com.

There is less than a week to go until the registration deadline for assault-style weapons and large capacity magazines. What are your opinions on the mandatory registration and the ban on certain types of weapons?
I am not a gun owner and I will sleep better knowing that we are doing more to keep track of gun ownership in our state.
I am not a gun owner but I feel that these registration requirements and bans infringe upon the Second Amendment rights of those who wish to own weapons.
As a gun owner, I support these registrations and bans. Irresponsible gun owners give a bad name to the rest of us who exercise our Second Amendment rights responsibly. Guns are only as safe as the people who own them.
As a gun owner, I will be registering my weapons. Whether I agree with the reasoning behind it or not, the threat of a minimum of one year in prison for violations is enough incentive for me to comply.
As a gun owner, I feel these mandatory registrations and the bans infringe upon my rights. I am a responsible citizen and I will be exercising my Second Amendment rights by refusing to comply with these mandates.
I am a gun owner but I do not have any guns that will require registration.
