TalkStory Theatre Company stages short plays

Published January 23. 2014 4:00AM

A recently formed group dubbed TalkStory Theatre Company will serve up a half-dozen new plays - "with spooky entertainment in mind," they say - in performances Friday and Saturday at New London's Shaw Mansion.

"If On a Winter's Night" boasts short works by TalkStory founder Darcy Parker Bruce - hers is titled " Six Thousand Feet to Sleep" - along with Anna Maria Trusky's "The Ledge" and James Kenney's "Pooka." Bruce and Kenney are from Norwich, and Trusky is from Mystic.

Also on the program: "Once Upon a Time in a Big Old House" by Ben Jolivet, who lives in Providence; "S'mores for One" by Catherine Weingarten (New York); and "Ah-Ren and the Forest of Shadows" by Joey D. Martell (Middletown).

The many actors who are bringing these stories to life include Tristan Cole, Courtney Danieluk, Michael Vernon Davis, Nancy Gatto, and Nathan Grenier.

"If On a Winter's Night," 7;30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Shaw Mansion, 11 Blinman St., New London; $10; reservations recommended: (860) 949-1995, talkstoryco@gmail.com.

Ralph Lauren has revealed the Team USA Olympic opening ceremony outfits (check them out at www.ralphlauren.com), including a cardigan that is a patriotic patchwork of stars and stripes. What are your thoughts on the look?
I like it. It fits the world stage setting of the opening ceremony.
It's awful. It looks like an ugly Christmas sweater meets 4th of July.
At least all of the materials are from the US rather than from China like the 2012 outfits.
I'm more concerned with the safety at the Olympics than with what the athletes will be wearing.
