One of the most beloved professors in Connecticut College history was the late Charles Chu, who created and served as Professor Emeritus of the school's Chinese program. He was also a brilliant watercolor painter and calligrapher whose works and vision are housed on campus in the Chu-Griffis Collection, located in Charles E. Shain Library. On Thursday, a separate exhibition, "The Tao of Charles Chu," opens with a reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Gallery at Firehouse Square in New London. The show consists of 24 never-before-seen works from the Chu family's private collection - 22 of which will be for sale. Through March 1. The Gallery at Firehouse Square, 239 Bank St., New London. Hours 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Mon.-Sat.; (860) 443-0344, firehousesquare.com.
