Child's play at the Florence Griswold Museum

Steve Elci & Friends will stage "A Hot Chocolate Concert."

If you'd been thinking of a way to characterize your reaction to this winter, you might be thinking, what? Winter woe? Winter weariness?

Not everywhere. When it comes to kids getting a little cold-weather entertainment, it's pure Winter Wonderment at the Florence Griswold Museum this weekend. Fun abounds indoors, with special events for families.

Steve Elci & Friends give "A Hot Chocolate Concert" on Saturday afternoon. Before and after, there'll be cocoa to sip and craft projects to try.

Flock Theatre presents "Puppetry on Parade" Sunday afternoon, showcasing a whole range of puppetry styles as they spin tales.

The events are held in conjunction with the opening of two new exhibitions at the museum. "The Artist's Easel" examines art through the tools and spaces that artists use. "Lyme Artists Abroad" focuses, as the title suggests, on Lyme Colony artists' experiences abroad.

Families can enjoy a game tied to the exhibitions. They can pick up "Can You Find Me?" cards, to hunt for details in paintings. (The cards, by the way, are switched to accompany every exhibition.)

They can also use a Scavenger Hunt sheet to search for objects in the historic Florence Griswold House. Visitors can turn in a finished sheet and get a prize.

Winter Wonderment, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Florence Griswold Museum, 96 Lyme St., Old Lyme; "A Hot Chocolate Concert with Steve Elci & Friends" 2 p.m. Sat.; Flock Theatre's "Puppetry on Parade" 3:30 p.m. Sun.; activities included with museum admission, which is $10, $9 seniors, $8 students, free for kids 12 and under; (860) 434-5542.
