There are many reasons to watch the Peabody Award-winning "Portlandia" on IFC - there's its fresh take on satire (a sort that's almost affectionate); the scenery in and around Portland; Kyle MacLachlan in his recurring role as the mayor of Portland; the Women & Women First Bookstore. Perhaps the biggest draw, though, is the versatility of show creators and funny people Fred Armisen (former "SNL" cast member) and Carrie Brownstein (lead guitarist/singer for Wild Flag and Sleater-Kinney). Restraint is the key to their comedy, mixed with just the right amount of cutting parody - directed at even the uber-hip and themselves - and social commentary. The sprinkles on top are the regular celebrity cameos on "Portlandia" - Chloe Sevigny, Tim Robbins, Martina Navratilova, Eddie Vedder, a hilarious Jeff Goldblum, and many others, who clearly get it and seem to enjoy their stay in Portlandia. (Steve Buscemi appears in season 4, episode 1.) Consider a visit this Thursday as the show returns for its fourth season.
