An open letter of apology to all Montville business owners. As the lone Republican on the Montville Town Council I want to apologize to all the business owners in town. The Democrats felt the need to forward a vendor ordinance for a public hearing reducing the distance a vendor, selling a similar product, can set up from a brick and mortar business to only 500 feet from the current 1 mile.
The sole purpose was to help a past councilor so he is able to sell his hot dogs. This change was not only against advice from the town planner, the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Economic Development Commission, but will now open the town up to vendors lining our roadways, causing traffic problems and taking sales away from the brick and mortar business owners in the area. A vendor will pay $35 for a permit while the business owner next door will pay several thousand dollars in taxes.
I tried to stop it but was outvoted 6 to 1. Please attend the public hearing and let your voice be heard. We don't need another long wharf, New Haven in Montville.
