On Friday, Grammy-nominated jazz musician Greg Abate brings his quartet to the Donald L. Oat Theater in the Norwich Arts Center as part of their First Friday Live Sounds music series.

Abate, who has played with the Ray Charles and Artie Shaw orchestras, is a superb saxophonist/flutist who's also well known as a composer and arranger. His most recent album, "The Greg Abate Quintet Featuring Phil Woods," was released in 2012 and earned a four-star review in the bible of jazz literature, Downbeat magazine.

The Abate Quartet can be expected to explore the post-bebop repertoire as well as feature original material. Fans can bring their own food and drinks, and snacks and beverages are also available at the theater.

Greg Abate Quartet, 8 p.m. Friday, Donald L. Oat Theater, Norwich Arts Center, 62 Broadway, Norwich; $20, $17 NAC members; (860) 887-2789, norwicharts.org.

How do you see UConn's basketball season ending this year?
I'm feeling lucky. I predict both men's and women's national titles.
The men are lucky to have made it this far. I don't know if they can win against Florida again.
No matter how the men do, we can count on the women to bring home a national title.
The men have the momentum to win and the drive to prove themselves after not being able to compete last year.
I'm more interested in the start of baseball season.
