Make a run for the food pantry

Published April 29. 2014 4:00AM

A charity event is almost always a fine idea, but Sunday's inaugural Poker Run sponsored by the New London Moose Lodge combines all sorts of fun events - all benefitting the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center. It's a 70-plus-mile ride that starts and ends at the New London Moose Lodge with stops in Moodus, Hebron and Bozrah. At each stop, riders draw a poker card; prizes for the best hand will be awarded at the end of the run. There's also breakfast ($6) at 10 a.m., a pig roast when the ride's over, and raffles, merch and music from DJ Voltage. Registration is at 10 a.m., with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. Admission is $15 per rider with a canned food item; $20 per couple. The New London Moose Lodge is at 72 Central Ave., New London. For more information, call (860) 608-1898. Rain date is May 18.
