Incumbent state Representative Elissa Wright was endorsed Tuesday for a fifth term by Democrats in the 41st District at their nominating convention.

Wright was nominated by City of Groton Mayor Marian Galbraith and her nomination was seconded by New London Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio. She received unanimous support from the delegates.

“I look forward to the opportunity to represent the residents and families of the new 41st District, and am committed to continue the vital work of re-energizing our economy through job creation and government cost reduction, while ensuring quality and protecting the most vulnerable among us,” Wright said Tuesday. “The quality of our communities and our state depends on a flourishing economy, educational excellence and sound fiscal policies.”

Wright serves as assistant majority leader, is a ranking member of the Regulation Review Committee and a member of the Judiciary Committee and the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee.

Wright, a former member of the Groton Town Council, Board of Education and Representative Town Meeting, lives in the Noank village of Groton.

Last week, Republicans endorsed Aundré Bumgardner, a 19-year-old from Groton, to run in the 41st District.

“I look forward to engaging in a very spirited conversation with Elissa Wright on the issues, and look forward to meeting and earning the support of the people of Groton and New London,” Bumgardner said last week.

The 41st District includes sections of Groton and New London.
