In reading all of the daily horror stories regarding conflicts, kidnappings and deaths, etc., I would like to commend The Day for taking time and space to print a great human interest story, "Groton students learn a lesson about giving of themselves," (May 10), about the students of Pleasant Valley Elementary School and their "Catch the Wave" program. Pleasant Valley School is educating the entire child, not only teaching them what used to be called the 3 R's but teaching them compassion and civic responsibility.

Our organization, the Groton Animal Foundation, was the recipient of their generosity. We would like to recognize them for their good deeds that were turned in for cash and subsequently donated to us.

Great job Day! Great job Pleasant Valley teachers and parents! Most of all, great job Pleasant Valley students!

What do you think about the proposed Comcast-Time Warner and AT&T-DirecTV mergers?
The mergers will improve customer service and quality of products.
The mergers will hurt consumers because the result will be less competition and we will have fewer choices for TV and internet services.
The mergers will help the companies expand their products so that consumers will have more bundled choices.
I don't do cable or satellite TV, so all I care about is that my internet connection speeds stay fast so that I can continue to stream movies and shows.
