Gubernatorial candidate, state Sen. John McKinney, R-Fairfield, announced on Thursday that he has filed his paperwork to enter the Republican primary for governor.

“I’m officially on the ballot and ready to take Connecticut in a positive new direction,” McKinney said in a press release.

By filing his primary certificate papers with the state’s Office of the Secretary of the State McKinney has become an official gubernatorial candidate on the ballot for the August 12 Republican primary. McKinney was one of three candidates for governor who received more than 15 percent of the Republican delegates’ votes at the Republican State Convention.

Republican endorsed gubernatorial candidate Tom Foley’s party endorsement paperwork has been filed, and as of Thursday morning Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton had not announced that he had filed paperwork.

"I have crafted balanced budgets, consistently fought for accountability in state government, and I understand the everyday anxieties of raising a family," McKinney said. "I am ready to be a leader for the hardworking people of this great state.

"I promise to wage an aggressive but positive primary campaign that focuses on why I can beat Dannel Malloy," he added. "I want to move Connecticut forward with a message of change and effective leadership."
