Storrs — University of Connecticut officials say running back Lyle McCombs is no longer on the football team, but they’re not saying why.

UConn announced on Wednesday that the 22-year-old, 5-foot-8, red-shirt senior from Staten Island, New York, is off the team, but will attend school over the summer to get his degree.

Coach Bob Diaco says being on the football team is a special privilege, and with that privilege come certain responsibilities and expectations. He didn’t elaborate.

McCombs is the fourth-leading rusher in UConn history with 2,681 yards, and was the team’s leading rusher the past three seasons.

What are your feelings about the swap of Taliban detainees for Army Sgt. Bergdahl?
It was the right thing to do. No soldier should be left behind. Period.
I thought our policy was to not negotiate with terrorist groups.
I initially supported the swap, but as more details have become available, I am not so sure now.
Absolutely not worth it, especially if the reports are true that soldiers died looking for Sergeant Bergdahl after senior American military officials say he wandered off his base.
