A burst of color at AvS exhibit

The "Summer 2014 Exhibition" at the Alexey von Schlippe Gallery of Art in Groton is a vibrant and expansive explosion of color and style. The show, which kicks off with an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, features works by Andrew Buck and Denn Santoro as well as "Proyecto Concepcion," a traveling collection by 16 Cuban artists including Taymy Martinez (whose "Pensamientos" is shown here). The Bill Morrison & Donn Trenner Jazz Duo will entertain at the opening. The show runs through July 26. The von Schlippe Gallery is on the campus of the University of Connecticut at Avery Point, 1084 Shennecossett Road, Groton. Hours are noon-4 p.m. Wed.-Sun.; (860) 405-9052, averypointarts.uconn.edu.
