Adams commits to UConn men's basketball

Published July 01. 2014 4:00AM

UConn scored a major victory in the recruiting game on Monday.

Highly regarded Jalen Adams, a Class of 2015 guard, announced on his Twitter account that he plans to attend UConn. "I Have Officially Decided That I Will Continue To Pursue My Dream At The University of Connecticut And Play for Coach Kevin Ollie #Huskies"

Adams made the verbal commitment after visiting the Storrs campus with his parents on Sunday.

The 6-foot-2 Adams is from the same hometown - Roxbury, Mass. - as Shabazz Napier, who led UConn to two national championships before graduating this spring. Napier was selected 24th by Charlotte in the NBA Draft on Thursday and traded to Miami.

"Seeing what coach Ollie did with a local guard from where I'm from, it definitely made a difference," Adams told ESPN.com, "and made me believe that if I put in the same amount of work that I could potentially end up with a similar opportunity."

ESPN ranks Adams 33rd in the Class of 2015. He attends Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass.

Louisville and Kansas also were in the running for Adams.

Adams is the second Class of 2015 guard to commit to UConn this year. Will Jackson, who's at Athens Christian in Georgia, committed in February.

In other recruiting news, Derrick Jones, a 6-7 wing player out of Archbishop Carroll in Philadelphia, reportedly made an unofficial visit to UConn on Monday.

Did the Supreme Court make the right call in its 5-4 Hobby Lobby ruling?
Yes, the court was right. Forcing the owners to provide insurance coverage for contraceptives they considered immoral violated their religious rights.
No, this was a terrible ruling. Women employees shouldn't be denied coverage for contraceptives because they happen to work for people who object to them.
I'm not sure how I feel. Both sides in the case make good points.
