New London - Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio paints a fire hydrant green and gold for Whaler Pride outside New London City Hall Thursday while on his vacation.   The mayor started his project of painting hydrants on Monday by painting a hydrant in front of the Garde Arts Center and one at Riverside Park. His plan is to paint several a day in key visible points in the downtown area.

Finizio thought it would be a fun idea and adds another touch of art to the downtown.

The mayor says his new mohawk hair style is in support of his sister who has cancer and did not want him, since he is a mayor, to shave his head like other family members did.  Finizio decided on a mohawk to support his sister's fight.
