Norwich — The Republican Town Committee unanimously endorsed former four-term Board of Education member Angelo Yeitz Wednesday to fill the vacancy created by member Lynn Norris’ resignation Aug. 17.

RTC Chairman Peter Nystrom said Wednesday the endorsement was unexpected. Nystrom had planned to seek interest from town committee members Wednesday for the 15 months remaining on Norris’ term. But when Yeitz, who served on the board for eight years, expressed interest, the town committee voted to endorse him immediately.

Nystrom said another person had expressed interest but withdrew when Yeitz came forward. Yeitz’s nomination will be forwarded to the City Council this week for a possible vote at the Sept. 2 City Council meeting.
