2014 marks the 40th anniversary of the Connecticut River Museum. In honor of this milestone, the Museum will feature the exhibit Reflections: 40 Years along the River. The exhibit will explore the story of the Museum and highlight the many topics that CRM has explored through exhibits, programs and other activities.

Members are invited to join us the evening of July 11 from 5:00-7:00 for an opening reception, held in conjunction with the Museum’s Annual Meeting. The exhibition will be open to the public daily until October 13.

Pause for Beauty - A Call to Artists

Studio 33 Art and Frame Gallery is seeking original works inspired by a call to Pause for Beauty. This show is a remembrance to pause for the beauty around us; to stop and smell the roses, savor the moment and join with family and friends to celebrate Life and Beautiful Art.

Entries will reflect the artists’ unique view of what beauty is. Since beauty is in the eye of the beholder, this should prove to be an interesting show. Works will be selected through a jury process. The show will run from October 1-31 with an opening reception Friday October 3 from 5-7:30 pm.

We are pleased to announce Carol Dunn as our guest juror. Carol is an award-winning printmaker, photographer and mixed media artist.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Vibrant World, a show of new works by Aleksandr Trachishin at Studio 33 Art and Frame Gallery.
Alex was born in the Ukraine. He graduated from Minsk Art School in 1986 and Rhode Island School of Design (USA) in 1996. Alex has participated in group and solo exhibitions in Belarus, Ukraine and across the US. Works are represented in private collections in Ukraine, Russia, Netherlands, Canada, Italy, Czech Republic, and USA .
Alex's art comes in bright colors and ranges from realistic to abstract, from expressionism to pop art. This show is one you don't want to miss as you never know what Alex will show next.

Show opens August 5th and runs through the 30th. An opening reception will be held Saturday, August 9th from 5-7 pm. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

OUT OF THE BOX, an exhibition showcasing the work of fine artists who “break out” of the rectangular canvas, sculpt unique objects or shoot photographs of unexpected subjects opens at Spectrum Art Gallery and Artisans Store (August 22 - September 28) at 61 Main Street, Centerbrook, Connecticut. A Reception, open to the public to meet artists and enjoy wine and hors d’ouevres is Friday, August 22nd from 6:30-9pm. And on Saturday, September 13, Origami in the Gallery will be held from 11:30-1:30pm, $2 for materials and open to all, no experience required. Spectrum is the newest expansion of the non-profit arts organization Arts Center Killingworth, whose mission includes providing opportunities for emerging and established artists to display and sell their work.

These seven artists each have unique and fresh ways of looking at the ‘animals of the field’, ‘birds of the sky’ and ‘creatures of the deep’ around them. The women who will be featured in the show are: Fran Baldwin, Ann Carter, Deb Curtis, Lori McClain, Liz McGee, Susan Stafford, and Courtney Tyson. A wide range of media used are pen and ink, water color, oils, acrylics, pastels and works on paper.

Laugh Out Loud Club (Grades K-2)

Explore the silly world of picture books at the library! Listen to tales of dogs skateboarding, a child waking up as flat as a pancake, and cows typing letters to their farmer. Create harebrained crafts, sing ridiculous songs, and laugh out loud at the library. The schedule is as follows:
September 9: "Stanley's Wild Ride"
September 16: "Never Glue Your Friends to Chairs" (Roscoe Riley Series #1)
September 23: "Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type"
September 30: "Flat Stanley"
