Crossing the Connecticut River Exhibit

Crossing the Connecticut River Exhibit; Connecticut River Museum, 67 Main Street, Essex, CT , 06426

Can you get there from here? This old saying really means something when you consider getting across the mighty Connecticut without the bridges we have today! There are approximately 58 vehicle bridges currently spanning the Connecticut River and ten were chosen as representative examples for the Connecticut River Museum's 2013 exhibit 'Crossing the Connecticut: Bridges of the Connecticut River'. The exhibit features several different styles of bridge design and explores how people's ideas of what bridges should look like and how they reflect how their communities have changed over time. The exhibit features many objects and images from the Museum's collections as well as paintings, original toll signs, documents and other artifacts on loan from other institutions. OBesa will perform 4 selections from Grainger’s musical setting of text from Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book (no, these are NOT the popular Disney tunes) and 3 choruses from a Christmas oratorio by Pablo Casals (in anticipation that the audience will find the music so beautiful that they will “vote” to hear more at a later date). Works of contemporary choral composers Joan Szymko, David Childs, Rene Claussen and Gwyneth Walker along with a couple surprise favorites by Alfven and Rossini lead the audience out of the jungle’s harmonic tangle and back to a “tonic” in the village. The Audience always gets to participate! Concert is at The United Church of Stonington, junction of Main St and Elm, Stonington
