The Mystic & Noank Library Ames Room art exhibit for August 2014 features a local group of plein air artists. The artists meet weekly at a variety of locations in southeastern Connecticut, working in oils and watercolors.

The artists represented in the exhibit are: Karin Bastidas, Carmel Bourneuf, Mary Carey, Toby Hohenstein, Brenda Manning, Joyce Maurice, Janvier Miller, Ray O’Connell, Dan Potter, Betsy Broughton Shafer, Nina Stimson, and Peggy Traskos.

2014 marks the 40th anniversary of the Connecticut River Museum. In honor of this milestone, the Museum will feature the exhibit Reflections: 40 Years along the River. The exhibit will explore the story of the Museum and highlight the many topics that CRM has explored through exhibits, programs and other activities.

Members are invited to join us the evening of July 11 from 5:00-7:00 for an opening reception, held in conjunction with the Museum’s Annual Meeting. The exhibition will be open to the public daily until October 13.

Pause for Beauty - A Call to Artists

Studio 33 Art and Frame Gallery is seeking original works inspired by a call to Pause for Beauty. This show is a remembrance to pause for the beauty around us; to stop and smell the roses, savor the moment and join with family and friends to celebrate Life and Beautiful Art.

Entries will reflect the artists’ unique view of what beauty is. Since beauty is in the eye of the beholder, this should prove to be an interesting show. Works will be selected through a jury process. The show will run from October 1-31 with an opening reception Friday October 3 from 5-7:30 pm.

We are pleased to announce Carol Dunn as our guest juror. Carol is an award-winning printmaker, photographer and mixed media artist.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation.

OUT OF THE BOX, an exhibition showcasing the work of fine artists who “break out” of the rectangular canvas, sculpt unique objects or shoot photographs of unexpected subjects opens at Spectrum Art Gallery and Artisans Store (August 22 - September 28) at 61 Main Street, Centerbrook, Connecticut. A Reception, open to the public to meet artists and enjoy wine and hors d’ouevres is Friday, August 22nd from 6:30-9pm. And on Saturday, September 13, Origami in the Gallery will be held from 11:30-1:30pm, $2 for materials and open to all, no experience required. Spectrum is the newest expansion of the non-profit arts organization Arts Center Killingworth, whose mission includes providing opportunities for emerging and established artists to display and sell their work.

We all feel bad, why hide it? “I Feel Bad” celebrates our horrible feelings, letting us laugh at, sympathize, and share, this gruesome human emotion. Through Painting, mixed media, and video, the viewer is plunged into a visual requiem for the human experience. The Essex Steam Train & Riverboat was proud to launch the Roaring 20's year theme on Saturday, June 14th in conjunction with the Connecticut Office of Tourism's 10th annual Connecticut Open House Day.

Throughout the day, attendees will step back in time upon entering the station, and will experience an era themed authentic car show (six parked vehicles), meet characters from the decade, take a journey on the train, and much, much more! There are endless photo opportunities throughout the day including relaxing in an authentic living room, posing with Roaring 20's characters, and taking a ride aboard the locomotive.
