This novel spans 500 years and combines both historical as well as science fiction. The story begins with a puzzling event in 1912 in a Vancouver forest with a British teenager exiled to Canada. It then moves forward through the pandemic of 2020 and ends with a famous author visiting Earth from the moon colony where she lives in the year 2203. How this event is connected to the various characters is compelling. Mandel is definitely a talented writer.
