East Haven Police are investigating after a 14 year-old was shot during a street robbery on Thursday, Aug. 22. Local police are seeking three suspects in a silver Honda who are believed to be involved in the incident.

According to East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr., police and fire personnel were dispatched to French Avenue at 12:18 p.m. after receiving a report of a juvenile victim with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim, identified only as a 14 year-old East Haven resident, was shot in an alley between Thomspon Street and the Tuttle School and traveled to a nearby French Avenue home for help.

"It's a quiet neighborhood," Maturo said. "This is the first shooting we have had this year. It's very rare in our community."

First responders provided life saving measures, and the victim was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital. He is listed in stable condition.

When paramedics arrived on scene, the victim was conscious and said he knew the suspects. Maturo said that there were approximately three occupants in a silver Honda. The gunman was described as a black male in his late teens. No further description was provided.

Witnesses are asked to call East Haven Police at 203-468-3820. Police Chief Ed Lennon said that officers are currently knocking on doors asking residents if they saw anything or if home security cameras may have captured footage of the incident.

Police are asking residents to avoid Thompson Avenue between Tyler Street and Frank Street due to the "very active scene." Maturo noted that there are multiple small crime scenes because the victim traveled from the scene of the initial attack. The public is asked to stay away from the area.

The identity of the victim is being withheld due to his age, but Maturo said that his family had been notified.

No additional information is available at this time.
