The Astra Studio of Dance and Performing Arts collected its fair share of awards for both company routines and solos at the Bravo Talent Competition in Tolland. On April 6 and 7, students from the Astra Studio of Dance and Performing Arts attended the Bravo Talent Competition that took place in Tolland. The Astra Dance company brought 11 entrants to the competition, which featured more than 450 entries.
Astra Studio’s lyrical company earned a platinum award, earned first place in its division, and brought home the Choreography Award for its routine, Through the Eyes of a Child. The acro company entered an open piece, Full Moon, and placed second in its division with a platinum award. The company’s jazz routine, Proud Mary, finished sixth in its division with an elite high gold score. The tap company’s routine, Mario Kart, earned an elite high gold and won the Costume Award.
The company members are Elleyana Barbieri, Emma Elgart, and Jillian Pernal of Old Saybrook; Callie Andrews and Victoria Le of Clinton, Vivi Heiser and Sadie Heiser of Chester, and Emma Golemeski of Gales Ferry.
Soloist Pernal performed in the open category, where she earned a platinum score, finished second in her division, and received a special judges award for Dramatic Performance. Soloist Golembeski performed a musical theatre routine and scored an elite high gold, in addition to receiving a special judges award, Props for Props, for the exceptional use of props in her routine. Soloists Andrews (lyrical and tap), Barbieri (open), Vivi Heiser (lyrical), and Le (open) all earned elite high gold scores for their routines.
